hello all

Does anyone know anything about Windows 2000 server event logs? I got the following warnings/errors.

Source:Schannel Type: Warning

No suitable default server credential exists on this system. This will prevent server applications that expect to make use of the system default credentials from accepting SSL connections.

An example of such an application is the directory server. Applications that manage their own credentials such as the Internet Information Server are not affected by this.

Source ? Type: Error

This machine is a PDC of the domain at the root of the forest. Configure to sync from external time source using the net command, ‘net time/ setsntp: <servername>

Any ideas what these mean. I had some more but it turned out my DNS wasn’t set correctly.

Any help much appreciated, as ever

Regards
Dan

I suggest you get the error code and tap it into MS Knowledge base. Thats what I normally do. Steve Hewitt

thanks for the reply. It doesnt find anything though.

HI!

First, these 2 errors are normal behaviour.

The SCHANNEL error means (like written in the log) that you didn't aquire a certificate so you won't be able to use SSL on your IIS server and other options that require a certificate.

The PDC time error appears also on each default single server installation and just gives you an advice to use external time source.
It is only important in a multi server and multi domain environment.

Tip:
Install the support tools from the W2K server CDROM on your server (or workstation). I think that part of it is a database of event messages.
There is also the full list somewhere in MS site.
