I keep getting the following event on my XP client PC. I've seen this on some servers as well. Our servers are Windows 2003.
--------------------------------------------------
Event ID: 40961
Source: LSASRV

The security system could not establish a secured connection with the server DNS/prisoner.iana.org. No authentication protocol was available.
--------------------------------------------------
A quick search on the internet shows others around the world who get a similar message, but, no one has came up with a solution.

Any ideas?

Thanks

IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, maintains DNS servers for top level domains.

My guess is that the XP client is misconfigured. It is trying to dynamically register a name with wine of the IANA DNS servers, ie. prisoner. For obvious reasons, this is not allowed. The dynamic registration attempt fails, and a 40961 is logged on the client.

prisoner.iana.org usually means you don't have a reverse lookup zone for your domain in DNS.

Found out the cause. On our DHCP services, we had our DNS addresses hardcoded in the Scope Section. This was recently changed, and we forgot to set them to the proper addresses.

Thanks for all the help.

Mike
