Event ID 1160

I have a fairly large exchange box (600+ users and over 7 gig of database). My problem is "a number of users" (myself included) opened outlook this morning, clicked on the inbox and it was grayed out. Clicked on the Outlook today bar and back to the inbox and it seems to work. I sync an Ipaq with outlook and it was unable to open the appointment folder, now it can. I've got just BUNCHES of those 1160 errors in the application evt file. This server has not been bounced in over a year. I'm really nervous about doing the defrag and compress the database (I'm not running out of space).
Any ideas?
