I have a client who has an Exchange 5.5 (sp4) server, that >used< to have this configuration:
*ISDN router to ISP (demand-dial)
*Batch file to ping external IP to get ISDN router to wake-up
*Batch file also ran utility to dequeue mail using ETRN from ISP
*Batch file scheduled with AT cmd to run every 15 mins
There was no ETRN dequeueing setup in the IMC.
Several months ago they got a dedicated Internet connecton, and now their Internet mail comes in directly to their server. The batch file that pinged/dequeued was removed from the scheduler and deleted.
Now for the problem....
Every time the Exchange server >sends< an Internet email, the event log logs an error similar to this one:
Event ID:4134
Source: MSExchangeIMC
Category: SMTP Interface Events
Desc: The Internet Mail Service is configured to use ETRN to dequeue mail, but ??.???.???.?? (for ?????.com) does not support ETRN. While this may prevent timely delivery of inbound mail, it will not affect delivery of outbound mail.
So, if they were sending an email to Microsoft, the error would be "131.107.3.125 (for microsoft.com)"
This has been happening even when they were on the dial-ISDN and were using ETRN to dequeue mail. (Another tech had set that up some time ago.)
Again.. no ETRN setup on the server, and this error happens with each email that is SENT. The error message I printed just happened to be for an email that they sent to another client of mine, who did receive it fine.
Odd.. I've searched the forums, M$, etc. - nada. It doesn't affect their sending/receiving mail, but it's an annoyance I'd like to eliminate.
Ideas?
