Hi

my family compuyter seems to have stopped the ethernet card from sending and receiving packets, hence no internet, i have had this problem before on my laptop when i uninstalled edonkey, what happend then is that edonkey redirected the ethernet card to some other process, and the laptop couldnt access the internet unless edonkey has been installed, windows seems to have a few of these process and are necessary for the ethernet card to work, then i downloaded a program which removed this process, but i cant for the life of me find or remeber the name of this program, has anybody heard of it?? or anything similar? am i correct in my description of the ethernet card?? any info would help me find this program and would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Bobbie

This fix might be a good first step?

i think thats due to the battery, it seems to be running low and resetting the time, i havnt installed service pack two on this machine yet.

cheers

Which machine has the "no internet" is it the one with the faulty time? Incorrect date and time can be a cause of failure to access some sites.

Also if your log is correct the version of "Hijack This" is well out of date too. The newest version is: v1.99.1 Sorry to seem "picky" it is not my intention.

Some entries worth looking at from my non-expert point of view.

Have you got a Firewall installed and is your Anti Virus up to date?

If you remove anything you may have to do the Winsock Fix again. Before you remove anything do a Google search to confirm it is malware.

oooh

yes it is, ill try changing the time, and running the antivirus, i have avg, which is upto date, also i am behind a firewall, ill update the hijack and run again, i ran a pynix removal tool from symantec and ill post the results up with the next hijack this.

and please be picky! it will help in solving this problem.

cheers

it didnt seem to remove any of the points you mentioned earlier, any ideas?? im not sure what cgzykx.exe nor the bhos are, i looked up the pynix.dll and it was said that it wasnt good and i should get rid of it, i ran the program from the symantec site which said it will get rid of it, but it didnt, any ideas on how this might be preventing the ethernet card to send and receive packets??, i am behind a router, i can ping the ethernet card but not the router, but i also have a laptop connected to the router, with the laptop i can ping the router and connect to the internet.

thanks for your help

bobbie

Download and install MS Antispyware, AdAware & Spybot. Update them to the latest deffinitions and then restart your machine in safemode. When in safe mode run each of the scans in turn (not all 3 at the same time), in this order, MS antispyware, then Spybot, then AdAware.

When all scans have finished and you have removed all files it shows you, restart your machine in safemode and then run the scans again.

You can find more advice at

Freeware Utilities for Windows Administrators.

i already have all those programs, the problem is that i cant access the internet from that machine, my guess was that spyware was affecting the lsp layer preventing the machine from accessing the internet, therefore i cant update the definition, is it possible to download the updates for those programs by file? and then install manually, instead of using those programs to update them selves?

cheers

bobbie

Hi Bobbie - For Adaware and Spybot you can download the updates manually. Just visit the sites and click on the download links. Unfortunatly there is no such facility for the MS software.

Greg Palmer
Freeware Utilities for Windows Administrators.

Hijack This has the ability to fix some of the items it lists just by selecting the "fix" option.

Other things you could try manually deleting the files mentioned. Any dlls or exe you may remove will end up in System Restore so when you have finished you may want to turn off and on System Restore to clean that up.

You can prevent BHO's from running via the Advanced options of IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced, as described in this thread.

Internet Explorer Error
thread779-767520

The correct name for the Task Manager program is taskmgR.exe not taskmgN.exe.

You can also try uninstalling your network card from Device Manager. Restart your computer and Windows should automatically install the network card and whatever driver it needs.

You should also perform regular disk cleanup and defrag.

Interesting it doesnt let me disable the network card, it just freezes as it says its disabling the card.

cheers
bobbie

You could try the uninstall option rather than the disable option, then reboot. On reboot it will rediscover the Network Adapter and reinstall the drivers.

Sorry for late reply

nope none of those things worked either, thanks for the help but i think its time for a format and reinstall of windows.

thank you
bobbie
