Hi all, I have a question regarding ethernet port bonding. When bonding 2 ports in a server or a high end PC, you effectively have a 2GB pipe using 2 separate 1GB ethernet ports. Of course you need to be able to agregate the same ports on the switch you are using. My question is this. What would be the difference in breaking the two ports out into two separate ports using two IP addresses? Does it all have to do with the OS and how the ports are handled? Does it mean the computer can do two things at once? We are trying to figure this out. thanks!!

It would be better to use your NIC's software driver to setup a "team" than to use two interfaces each with their own IP address. Depending upon the type of switch you are using, there are different team options that you can use.
