I have a pc with windows 2000 with SP4. it has a
3com 3c900B etherlink XL pci card. It also has a Diamond
SupraSST V.92 SUP2771 modem. I have been using the 3com
card and a DSL connection for the internet. I want to change to the modem and dial-up (for my dad, he won't pay
for DSL). I can't get the internet set-up or hardware
wizard to "see" the modem. the system info doesn't even list any port information. how do I reconfigure it to use the modem? also, I know 2000 is set up to see only network
printers. how do I make 2000 use my local printer with the serial connection?

thanks

Can you see the modem listed in device manager? If not, you might need to go to the Modem's Manufacturer's web page, and download drivers.

After that its a matter of plugging in the phone line, and typing in the number to dial to.

As for the local printer, installing the software for it should be all it takes.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

some mobo's have jumpers that will deactivate or activate a modem, either build in or in the ARM slot...

take also a look in the BIOS, the modem detection may be turned off there aswell...

I dialed in when I got W2K, so that isn't the issue. Maybe Dial-up Networking wasn't installed? Maybe it's disabled in control panel?

Any red X's in device manager? That could be the modem.
