I upgraded a Compaq Presario 5240 from Windows 98 to Windows XP Professional.

However there is no sound control and no sound. This device (ES1869) has a yellow exclamation point against it and this message: "This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources. (Code 29)".

Any ideas on how to proceed from here?

Thanks.

Thanks all! I have the driver and I probably have the information on how to enable this device:

"If you want to turn on the device, you must change the settings using your computer's BIOS setup program.

If you have an older BIOS which contains an PNP-OS switch, you might be able to get your device to work by setting this switch to "No"."

Does nayone know how to do this? How do you get into the BIOS?

Thanks.

At power on when your cursor moves to the top right of the screen press F10.

When I went to BIOS, I did not see anything related to my sound card driver, and nothing I tried resolved my problem. But, I then decided to go to 'exit' and chose 'Restore Defaults'. That did the trick.

Thank you, guys!
