Very wierd. I have a user that just got a new computer. It ran fine for 2 days until suddenly it began locking up on her. It locks up (cannot even ctrl-alt-del)every time she tries to go into My Computer. Any ideas what would cause this?

Do a Scandisk, and see if any bad sectors or corrupted files show up.
However, you should either have it fixed or replaced under warranty if it's a new unit.

Windows 98? Just (sort of) kidding. Have you any more info about this - eg, new machine - no chnages made to software/hardware since it arived? Do you know how it locked up the first time it did this? Did the 2 days of no problems involve serious use of the machine?

Thanks for the replys. I went into the hardware acceleration tab and set the acceleration to none. This has resolved the problem but still would like to know what would cause this. I did run scandisk. It was OK. Yes I have installed a lot of new software on this computer since it has arrived. Office 2000 and our PC payroll software. The only hardware is an external modem.

Dell 1.2Mghz 40GB HD 256MB memory Windows 98SE.

Is Office 2000 running 'Findfast'? This often generates a lot of disk activity which can result in lock-ups.

If necessary, check for updated drivers for your video card.
If none at the Dell site, check the video card manuf's site. You can get the card manuf. and model in Device Manager.
