Unable to access the W2k server (different domain ) from my windows 2000 professional workstation sitting in a windows NT 4 domain, I can access few other servers in the same domain.

I have added this new sql 2000 server to my windows 2000 domain last week, all DNS and wins configurations is same as other servers in the same W2k Domain, I have established trust between two domain and can access couple of other server with out any issues.
Please advise what I can do to solve this issue, I am using same dns, wins as other windows 2000 servers .

A few things:
Have you tried pinging the IP address?
Have you tried using UNC with name, or IP? (\\server, or \\(IP Address))
Are your link lights on both NIC & Hub/Switch lit up?

If you ping the IP Address & nothing happens, then it is probably not a DNS or WINS issue. Might be the gateway, cabling, or IP configuration.

If you are successful in pinging, but cannot connect by name, then this might be a DNS problem.

How are you trying to connect?

Thanks for your help.
There is no connection issues, I can ping the server and access other server in the same domain and in same network segment. I can not able to access this partiular w2k server.

Could you tell me how your trying to connect. Are you browsing network neighborhood? Are you trying to map a drive? Are you using UNC?
This might help me to understand more about your problem.

I am browsing the network neighborhood I get the same error message also when I use the netview command.

Try this, just to see if this connects.
Type this into My Computer...
\\(IP Address of Server)\C$

Then, if it asks, put this for the username & password..
(your domain)\Administrator
(password)

I can connect using \\(IP Address of Server)\C$

Thank you and I appreciate your help. Please let me know what is the solution for this

I had an issue like this that went away by simply rebooting the computer that I was trying to access. I could use the IP to connect, but not the name. Then I rebooted the computer, and could connect to it since then.

Have you tried rebooting, maybe both computers? (source & destination)

Thanks Again Mark.
I have rebooted the server several times - no luck .
It is really strange issue, I can see the A records for this server in the w2k DNS server.
