We are running Exchange Server 5.5 w/sp4 on NT4 sp6a. Just started having a problem when users try to synchronize their mail with Outlook 2000 they receive the following error:

Error synchronizing folder
[80004005-501-50A-550]
The client operation failed.
Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store

This appears to be happening to all users. I tried renaming the .pst file on the local pc and I got the same results. I also tried running a repair/re-install of Office 2000 on the pc and still have the same problem.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

In my original post I said that I tried renaming the .pst file.....I meant to say the .ost file.

How are you setting up the synchronization? I would try creating a different ost file and try again. Do this from outlook 2000 profile properties (I.E - right click on Outlook, properties, show profiles, click on the profile properties, Microsoft Exchange Server properties, Advanced Tab. From the Advanced Tab, click on "offline folder file settings", Disable "Offline use" and go back into the "offline folder file settings", give the ost file a new name and then click "ok". Also make sure that you have "enable offline use" is checked).

I'm sure you have already done this but just trying to guess how you are setting up the ost file. Once the ost file is created you should manually synchronize the folders while logged into outlook (I.E - tools==>synchronize)

Hope this helps? Let me know how you make out.
