I cannot delete, move or rename mp3's. This is starting to upset me, as I have 8+ gigs of mp3s with new ones all the time. This means alot of upkeep, and now I cannot do this upkeep. It is only mp3s so far, and it has been happening for serveral months now. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.

It was a good idea, but one I have already tried. This folder, just as all the other folders I know of are already under my "ownership". I have no trouble accessing them, and the error does not state that I do not have permissions to view or modify the file. It does however tell me that the file is in use by another person or program. This last part is, by all accounts, not true. I have shut down all other programs, every non vital service, and still it tells me this. This leads me to belive that it is part of XP and not another app.

Here is something you can try to see if you can locate which process if any is using your Mp3's.

Handle

Using Handle.exe

Start Handle.exe from its home directory. Complete usage
is available by typing /? from a command prompt.

While you are there also have a look at Process Explorer.

Interesting, but I am unsure how to use it to help me. Do you know what I am to look for? the help is not too helpful.

I took some time to play with the little proggie, and found that explorer.exe appears to be doing something with my mp3 files. I cannot tell what it is doing, but when I search for mp3 files, explorer is the only program to come up. If you can tell me what that means I might get somewhere with this.

Read these links and follow any suggestions for corrupt files.

A suggested workaround: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to the key below and delete the default data (right pane).

For AVI's

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avishellex\PropertyHandler

For MP3's

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.mp3\shellex\PropertyHandler

Note: Make a backup of each key before editing.

Problem: Windows Explorer excessive CPU usage.
