Hi to all.
I searched the site for help on this, but did not see what I needed. I'm asking in this section, but I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place, but since the issue arises when running a query...
I have an Access app to which I've linked 2 tables from another Access BE. This BE is used by a scientific instrument manufacturer for the data container for the instrument results. In my own app, when I want to pull instrument data into my app for our work, I run two queries to append the data to two tables in my app. I set this up originally in Access 2.0, and have successfully transitioned it all the way to Access 2000.
We recently put this instrument and its software on an XP Pro machine, with Office XP, and a small problem has come up. The queries still work fine, but only if the instrument software has been exited first. If the instrument software is running when we run these queries, the query errors out with a record locking violation. This then locks the instrument software up, and we have to reboot the machine. In the instrument software, we get an error telling us it couldn't lock the file because SHARE.EXE has not been loaded. I did not see this .exe on any of my other machines, and do not know where to get it.
On any other machine or any earlier version of Access, we've been able to run these queries while the instrument software is still up and running, so it kind of threw me for a loop. The instrument manufacturer has no clue as to what's going on, in fact, they told me that there is no way I should be able to link the tables in their BE to my stuff.
For now, we are just shutting the software down, running the queries, and then bringing the software back up, but I'd like to avoid that, without changing Access versions.
Would anyone out there have any ideas about this SHARE.EXE file?
Many thanks in advance for any help,
Joe Cruse
