Hello everybody,

I'm new to the Crystal world. We've just installed Crystal Enterprise and Analysis on a Windows 2000 server, and I've applied all the necessary Service Packs and Hot Fixes. It worked fine on our test box, but on the server it will reside on permanently it is unable to view a report we pushed from the test box to the new server. When I click on the link to view the report I get this message:

An error occurred, but no details are available.

I downloaded and installed the CAP90Win_en_20031211.exe Hot Fix after searching on Crystal's support site for this problem, which is supposed to correct this problem. However I'm still getting this error message. We aren't getting it on the test server at all and we essentially set everything up the same way on the permanent server. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sure, I know this error, but I can't give you the solution ;)

I've had it happen before but I can't recall how I resolved it (wasn't a service pack).

Try reloading the report on to CE, and if it still fails, open the report directly off of the CE server from Crystal Reports and running it, then try saving it directly on tothe CE server from CR.

Are you sure that you have all of the database(s) connectivity right for that report?

I'm pretty sure we have all the database connectivity correct for the report. I didn't set it up; we had a consultant do all that. I did try your suggestions and I can log onto the server through CR and CA but I still can't open the reports. In CA I get this error message:

"The file you are loading refers to a cube that no longer exists. Would you like to open the file against a different cube?" There is then a Yes and No button.

So on the CR/CA side from a desktop PC I get the above error message. When I try to open the report in the ePortfolio web client I get the other error message.

Confused? You bet I am.

Not too surprising, being confused by Crystal's inconsistent errors, or that this is happening.

The latter has demonstrated the problem though, someone deleted or renamed your cube, recreate it and repoint it.

Here are a couple additional causes of the error message "The file that you are loading refers to a cube that no longer exists. Would you like to open the file against a different cube?"

Cause 1: The Crystal Analysis ActiveX viewer is being used to view Cube from a computer that is not logged on to the NT domain

Solution: (from Crystal support) The activex client for .car files is a thick client that actually makes a direct connection to the OLAP server. The DHTML viewer actually goes through IIS and then to the Web Component Server which connects to the OLAP server then streams the html page back to the browser. So the issue that you are seeing is expected as permissions come into play when the Active X viewer makes a direct connection to the OLAP Server. If you would like to have users outside of the domain view OLAP based reports, then the report will have to use an connection. This allows IIS to authenticate the user's access to the OLAP server while using the Active X viewer. To use this feature select the radio button beside HTTP Server in OLAP Server connection dialog box.

Cause 2: Client computer does not have Microsoft Pivot table service installed on it.

Solution: If you are using SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, download the latest MS SQL Server 2000 Service pack (currently SP 3a). Unzip it, and then install PTSFull.exe from SP directory \sql2ksp3\msolap\Install\PTS
