I have an Access database with a problem. The database is on my D:\ but each time I try to open it the following error message appears. Is there any hope?

"The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time."

need more details: what kinds of activities happen when the db is launched? do other users get this same error? ARE there other users? if you copy the db to your c:\drive and try to open it, what happens?

if your d:\ is a cd drive, what you should do is,open a new db,then click at file and find "get external data" and browse at your d:\ and then ,you'll know what to do.

This is a file that has been shared on a network drive. It is automatically updated each night. On last Wednesday night something happened to the file. I can rename it and do anything with it except open it. I move to the D:\ a hard drive on my computer with the same results. I normally have 3 copies within a day or two of being duplicates but in the process of trying to update this file all three files are not useable. Also for some reason we cannot restore the file from our backup system. I fould a good file from March and updated it but some data was lost.

create a new blank db. try importing all objects from the messed up db. maybe at this point it doesnt matter cause you're moving on with an 'old' version, but it's a good test.

I tried importing to a new database and got the same message.

well, obviously data corruption. are you plugging along with an 'old' version? or does your server admin have a backup copy from tuesday night?

We are using the old version. We lost about 400 closed contract records and any notes personnel had input. Murphy's law wins again.

Great news. They were finally able to restore a useable file from the day before it crashed. God answered my prayers.
