I have been trying Windows 7 Professional and this morning it booted the bios then I got the error message, SYSINIT::ERROR 0-0! verifysysdatavar returns false

As I am new to Windows 7, having had a good life with XP, this problem has warned me off 7.

Any advice would be gratefully taken.

One wonders if perhaps someone was a bit naughty, and provided you with a refurbished drive - and one that contained a Linux boot partition - rather than a new drive.

Yeah, this is all so confusing. I wish I could actually understand the whole thing.

I have loaded 7 onto a brand new drive and it seems okay. When I tried to use Windows chess on the problem drive it would not work but it is working fine on the new drive.

I know I'm late to the party here, but since that drive seems to have taken a dump that error message could also be coming from drive controller itself rather than windows.

Even more Fox stuff at:

As I had been running a seperate drive with XP and had no problems with it, I do not think it was the drive controller.

He means the drive controller board on the hard drive itself not the motherboard controller.

Thanks for the explanation.
