Error in install SQL Server 2000

I am currently running SQL Server 7 and am trying to upgrade to 2000. When running the setup wizard, I get the following error:

"A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. You must restart the computer before running setup."

I have rebooted several times and emptied my temp directories, but the message persists. Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause?

Could anyone else have installed programs previously under a different username and not rebooted?

No, I'm still not sure why I encountered this issue but I found the solution in Microsoft's knowledge base. For future reference, Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 312995 answers this issue. In short, it required that I delete a specific registry key in order to proceed with the install.
