Hello all,

I got a strange problem and need suggestion from the experts.

I have a company notebook using o/s Win2000. It's works fine at work. I could surf the web no problem.

When I conntect this notebook at home, hard wired to the router, I got the IP but could not able surf the web. I could ping some sites but not all from the command windows. I will get the error from IE browser "Internet explorer could not open the search page". I have another desktop with Win2000 at home, it has no problem surfing, it works just fine.

I had tried the following;

In IE browser tools, internet option, connection, Lan setting, I checked the Automatically detect setting.

I re-installed the IE6-sp1 and Win2000 sp4.
I also pluged directly to the ISP incoming line, same problem.

The notebook is working fine at work therefore technician said it is my home network problem. I don't think so since my home desktop is working fine connected with the same router. I believe it is the notebook setting that cause this problem.

Is there any suggestion?

Thanks,

Have you check for a Proxy server seting, A lot of office setups use Proxys.
In IE click Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Lan Setting, Check for Proxy Server setting, Remove for home use. Also you can compaire your 2 Computers IP info by doing Start, Run CMD
and doing a ipconfig /all see if DNS Server info is the same.

The other thing you could do is download a Firefox browser and see if you still have the problem . On your IE empty all the caches and history to see if that helps .
