Hi,

I am trying to install win 2000 on a new Sata HDD. At first, I tried to format the disk and install windows, but the installation failed twice, prompting setup was unable to copy a particular file over, and skipping the file would give me a blue screen. (Unfortunately, I did not take note of the error.)

Subsequently, when I get to the screen when setup asks to install or repair the installation, when I try to press "ENTER" to install, I get STOP error 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA), Address BFD83769 base at BFD19000, DateStamp 3ebc05a5 - ntfs.sys

Is there any way to resolve this? I am using MSI 865PE Neo2 Mainboard, and Seagate 80GB Sata HDD.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you may have a hardware problem (could be anything, but I'd start by checking the RAM - eg, or if > 1 stick, try each on its own).

PS. Presume you have got correct SATA drivers on a floppy for use after pressing F6 at start of install?

Wolluf is probably right - I had the same problem and it turned out to be a faulty ram stick.

Something else you might check is the disk you are trying to install from.
I had that same kind of thing happen a few months ago. I tried re-installing a few time before I noticed the CD was scratched pretty badly.
I used a different copy of Win2K and everything went fine.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to get the installation working by deleting the existing partition on the disk and using another installation cd. My pc is up and working fine now. Thanks =)
