Is there anyway to get around this? I have yet to find a site with an actual solution. I have a report called Credit Card Deposits. What it does is grab all transactions that have a CC transaction type, then lists the cards and what their respective sales were for the day.
Example:

August 11, 2002
Credit Card Type Amount Deposited
----------------------------------------------
Discover Card $87.58
Master Card $202.12
Visa Card $127.37
-------
Total for deposit $417.07

August 12, 2002
Credit Card Type Amount Deposited
----------------------------------------------
Master Card $156.95
Visa Card $251.21
-------
Total for deposit $408.06

I want the grouping by date. I can't think of a better way to show the client what their total deposits were for each DAY.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

First group by day, then by credit card type. You can place the "sums" of the detail in the group header and suppress the detail. Something like:

Date Group Header:
Date
Then your titles (also in date group header)

Credit Card Group Header:
Credit Card Type Sum of Deposit
Detail (suppressed)
Deposit Amt

I can get my grouping and output peachy. At runtime I get an error 523. Crystal reports this as an invalid group condition.

I found a site that said grouping on date fields cause this. It made no recommendation.

Huh? I group on dates all the time. What version of Crystal are you using and what type of database?

I would check your database error messages (most can be found online). Sybase error 523 is caused by an overflow.. which could show a number of problems with the database.

Some other things to try:

Try unchecking "group on server".

Try removing all groups.. does the problem go away...

Try your SQL statement directly against the database, does the error still occur?

I know for a fact that:

1. Group on server is not checked.
2. The query on it's own via Query Manager works fine.
3. I'll remove groups and try again. I think if I supress that grouping the error message goes away. Michael Doig
I have a pretty damn good website.

Try writing a formula that results in a date value (no time), and then group on the formula. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
