Hi, Thanks for the help in advance.
We got the Veritas backup Exec 10 runing perfectly.
But every night when the backup system works it generate an error in the event viewer and here below is a copy of it..
We tried to contact Dell because we just bought our server from them including the Veritas software but they couldn't help because they don't support the software, we called Veritas but they refused to help unless we pay them for the support!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and we just bought there software).

Here is the error hopfully someone can help us..

An error occurred while attempting to log in to the following server: "VLSERVER\BKUPEXEC".
SQL error number: "4818".
SQL error message: "Login failed for user 'VLSERVER\Backup'.
".

For more information, click the following link:

We did whatever was in that link above but didn't solve the problem...

Thanks

Veritas is paid support no matter what. You should have had an option from dell to purchase a support contract as well. Basically the service account in Backup Exec cant logon to the SQL/MSDE instance that Backup Exec uses to run on. If the job is not failing then I wouldnt worry about it. You can use the beutility and change the database access and add the service account and grant access to the database - it may work.

Thanks for posting this issue.

We are having same problem, we updated from version 9.x to 10 of Backup Exec. We have jobs that do both flat file and integrated sql backups, the jobs worked without generating any error messages in version 9.x. In new version we get the 4818 error stating the account could not log into sql server, but then the job does the backup. Was curiuous if you ever found a solution?

Thanks,

well seeing that you really don't have to backup the BKUPEXEC sql instance - I would ignore the error and take it out of the selection list.

BE does maintenance every night by default and part of that is to take a backup. The backup file is in c:\program files\veritas\backup exec\nt\data\bedb.bak
