i purchased an Epson 1520 printer and cannot make it print decent copy no matter what i do. should i throw it away or is there any hope at all? [sig][/sig]

Any printer can be made to print to its original specifications. Question is of price/time.
What is the quality issue? And what are your expectations?

i have a cheap HP710C printer which produces good color copy.
the Epson 1520 dosen't come close to this modest standard.
no matter what i do the machine prints faded copy, and believe me i've done it all 10 times over with the same results.do i need a raster image contoller such as BEST or would that also be a waste of time and money.

First things first. Raster image controller is a alien device to me. So I can't comment. I would suggest that if you can't get near equal print out of the box it isn't worth spending the extra money. But there will be other opinions just as valid.
Can't ever remember working with 1520, at least where the details stick in the mind, but isn't there a way to generate a test page? And if so does it look ok?
And I have noticed significant quality issues from paper in changing between ink types in different manufacturers machines. My experiences in this area have been more HP/Canon where the HP needed a more absorbant paper.
Now that I know where you are headed I'll defer to others more experienced with your equipment. Best of luck.
