Really strange problem.

XPe FR2 on W2K SP3. 7 servers in the farm

Have published desktops to users and, for some users, when they log into the farm and connect to some of the servers (the same 3) the login just seems to freeze. CMC indicates the user is connected to the server fine, but they get nothing appearing on the screen at all, and it remains that way indefinitely. It is possible to use task manager to start an application, and run explorer up, which works fine, but when you close the session, a WFShellWindow error is displayed. This may be totally unrelated, but its just about the only clue at the moment.

Can't understand why the CMC should think the connection is open, but yet, as far as the user is concerned, they don't get their profile loaded, nor does explorer run up. The launching Explorer via task manager is only something admins can do, so any ideas much appreciated because, at the moment, any user who connects to the servers in question simply gets nothing.

One of the servers was rebooted yesterday and appeared to be OK, but it has the same issue this morning.

Could this be some sort of profile corruption? If so, is there any way to work out which profile could be causing the problem.

Any ideas/thoughts very much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi,

Questions:-

Profiles - Local or Roaming
Server Rebooted - Application Server or Profile Server

With a user that has issues you could get them to log out, then delete the ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log, ntuser.ini and ntuser.pol (some files may not exist!). Then get the user to log back in and see what happens.

If you have a user with this issue, try bouncing your Profile server and see if their login continues, if so, your profile server may be the issue not the application server.

What Application are you launching, are we likely to know it? May help in fixing the issues!

Cheers,
Carl.
