Ending of processes before defragmentation

In the Win XP task manager (ctrl-alt-del), which processes can be safely ended before a defragmentation? Also, is there a way to end many processes in one time?

The best/safest method to do what you are asking is to boot to "SafeMode" to run the defrag. As this loads with the minium drivers/processes upon boot.
