hi, i am not sure if i should ask this here, but i want to make a dvd/vcd/video presentation, but would like to encrypt it, so that no one can just pop in to a dvd-burner and copy it, ideas?

i dont need 3576352135751 bit encryption, just want to make it 1-2 step harder for normal user to copy.

or give a pointer to where should i go ask next.

thanks

What you ask may not be easily possible for a home user, the Movie Industry seems to have a lot of trouble (and money) handling this type of problem.

You could zip the file (and password it) or just encrypt it and retain it on the hard drive as an encrypted file, but you would have to burn it to DVD each time you wanted to play the file.

Hopefully others may have some better ideas.

kusazero,

I do not want to burst your bubble, but trying to encrypt video information is/has been a goal from many sources.

Content Scrambling System (CSS) is relatively expensive and used by motion picture producers to protect their multi-million dollar investment in property. It takes only a blink of time for a descrambler/ripper to be produced to circumvent any protection scheme.

The problem is not just encrypting the info, but really lies in decrypting it as it is accessed/played, as this would require a hardware decrypter in all DVD decks this is has not been implemanted. Actually, IEEE, and others have generated a non copy scheme through including two bits of data with a piece of video indicating the copy state (kinds like a readonly bit associated with a file). This is the downside of going digital as copies are exact duplicates and the non copy bits can be stripped out through a bit of programming.

If I have not swayed your opinion on this as a bit futile; you can investigate one of the latest schemes here:

VCPS is available from Phillips See:

This may be the thing you are looking for...

it's called CrossCrypt and allows the use of a CD as a Crypted Container, instructions are there on the WebPage...

draw back - Cross Crypt has to be installed on all PC's, that want to use the CD/DVD and the CryptKey has to be copied to said machine (or on a floppy), to be played...

thanks for all the info, guess what i want is not available around

i found a way, i just password a powerpoint file, then just insert the said video into the powerpoint file..

kusazero,

I am glad that you discovered a method that you are satisfied with.

How does this protect your information? i.e. I have your DVD/CD and password, and I copy it and give it to someone else along with the password.

Just wondering what your original intention is/was.
