Enabling Calendar in PHP

Hi everbody!
I have seen PHP configured sometimes with a built-in calendar, in which case there should be something like 'calendar enabled' in the php.ini file. I don't see this in the version I'm running on my host's machine, and no calendar functions work, but I want the calendar and the hosts don't wanna help!
Is this as simple as modifying the php.ini file, or do I need a complete re-configuration of PHP?

It requires a compilation of PHP.

Have you looked at the PEAR Date class? (
