I am on XP Office 2002.
After asscoicating application to file extension via explorer-Tools-Folder Options-File Type-Change, it took it with no complaint.
Using .JPG extension as an example. I make Paint Shop Pro as the applicaton to associate to .jpg files. Under window explorer by double clicking the jpg file, the correct Paint Shop Pro app will run to open the file.
However....
Symptom 1.
- Icon for jpg files are not changed and stayed as MS Photo editor icon
Symptom 2.
- Right click to check the file properties, the MS Photo editor applicaton is highlighted.
and
"Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is greyed out in the file property-change-OpenWith window.
Symptom 3.
And "opendocument" operation from any software will still use MS Photo Editor as the application to open the jpg files.
I eventually solved the problem by erasing the default openwith application in the registry.
In stead of messing around with registry for every file extension, is there a way to enable the option "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"??? when associating program to file extension.
Thanks!
