If this is the proper forum to address Enable MAC Address Filtering then I need some guidence in that area, If not, I need direction to the correct forum.

I have windows 2k sp4 connected to Verizon with a DSL Modem Router that supports Wireless connection.

I also have a laptop with windows xp and a wireless PCMCIA NIC.

Everything works just fine.

How can I enable MAC address filtering and enter my laptop NIC MAC address?

I assume you mean the Westell 327W

Go to the router web-based setup page, Configuration, Wireless, MAC filtering - enable, and make entries in the MAC filter table.

Yes it's the Westell 327W and thanks for the quick response.
Can the web-based setup page be found at westell.com?

To setup the wireless router, you may want to call Verizon tech support and have them walk you through it. In any case, here's what you need to do: while connected to the 327w via the included ethernet cable, bring up your browser and got to or This gets you to the router setup. The screens are not intuitive and you may wish to bring up the 327w's manual on your screen (included on the setup CD, else you can find it at
(1a) Set up an administrator account on the 327w. I recall that the default userid=Administrator pwd=Password. Be sure to change the password.
(1b) Give the 327w the userid & pwd for your Verizon DSL account. The modem does the connection, not your PC.
(2) Enable MAC address filtering. Go to Start, then Run, type in "cmd" and press enter. From the resulting DOS command window type "ipconfig /all" which will display a bunch of info. You want the line(s) that say "physical address" and it will look something like this: "Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 0E-0F-20-6C-CA-7B"

Thanks very much..

I agree the screens are far from intuitive but it seems to be working, it has stopped my 2nd wireless laptop dead in it's tracks!

If you drive 30 miles west of Boston, perhaps you can run a test.

I wish Verizon (et al)would stress MAC filtering and make it a bit easier to use.

I feel safer...thanks again.
