Does anyone know of an "silent emergency" type switch or device that can activate an off-hook on an analog line ? I know I can have an analog line programmed to autodial a hot-line number. We have receptionists that may not be able to use their phone in an emergency and management wants something installed under their desks that they can silently activate with their hand, knee or foot.

They have a piece that can be connected to the wall field and works IF the PBX is powered down. Sadly this will not work if the PBX is broken and powered on. The best solution and truthfully more cost effective is to have a regular phone line installed with local only for a emergency phone. The last time someone requested we added what was called POWER Fail phone it was over 3k for the parts needed.. You will still need a POTS line to connect it to..

Thanks, but what I am referring to is a switch that connects to an analog port at a workstation. When the switch is activated the extension goes off-hook and will diala hot-line number, either an internal number or 9-911. This is to be used if our receptionists would be unable to use their phone or were under some sort of duress.

You might want to play with a feature call Off hook alerting. This will send out an alert after a set has been off hook for so many seconds. It is on the "disp sys fea".

"You don't stop playing because you get old. You get old because you stopped playing."

For the best response to a question, read FAQ222-2244.

Ah i would talk to my vendor if i were you.. They might recommend something.

thanks lisa

If you're handy, you might try something along these lines: Get an old 2500 set....wire in an on-off switch in place of the switchhook switch (one for each receptionist, wired in parallel). Mount the switches where you need them. Flip the switch and the 2500 set should go off-hook. When set up with a hot-line destination it should call out. Remember that a normal on-off switch opens the circuit when in the off position, and closes the circuit in the on position, which is the opposite of what you want. So the "on" position would mean on-hook, and "off" would be off-hook, thereby placing the call.

Never done it myself, but it seems like it should be do-able.

Depends on how big is your company. We use the security system instead of the PBX to handle this task.
