I am trying to find a way to setup a "code" or something that will page througout all the phones in case of an emergency. For example a tornadoe warning. Is this possible?
nope no way..... but you could program all sets with back ground music allowed and NOT have music on hold and when this tornado hits turn on device with the pre-recorded message"run for your lives now" and maybe be lucky enough to have it heard thru all sets.
Check with valcom .I did a Home Land job and they built a special rack mount unit that one of the devices in it would send out a wooping sound then an anouncement, when it recieved a call to a special number that was directed to an ATA that would generate a page. This was done to alert the pilots that a plane had entered restricted airspace.
The only trouble with doing a "workaround" is that it's great when it works and everyone is safe but if for any reason the ksu, paging amp, cable or horns etc. don't work when you need them, are you going to be held liable, if it a true case that emergency measures must be in place then a seperate engineered system should be installed. Just thinking thats all!
no of course not..But i spent last 10 yrs doing work arrounds that all others said couldnt be done..On paper it should work fine..Only problem would be if users shut off background music on sets.
Ps
I have learned to say it cant be done only because there were only a couple of other guys who could do it and if a smo went out and made a change it could take hours to fix and did
I implemented the same scenario as cook1082 to page overhead when a call rings back from hold to the receptionist. I know the equipment was Valcom, but can't recall the model.
