Emergency location extensions

I was removing some old extensions and found that 3 were being used as emergency location extensions for other extensions. The scary thing is I never set those up that way. Each extension is on 15-20 other stations. A lot of this system predates me so I'm not going to worry about how two of the numbers got used, however the 3rd number is a test number I set up and I know I never went and set that as an emergency location for anything.

What might have caused this?

Does you City/State require CAMA trunks for 911 service? With CAMA service, eextensions are assigned to identify the floor/quadrant of the station making the 911 call.

We don't use CAMA trunks. We send the actual extension to our provider who uses Intrado to send a physical address to 911 dispatch.

What scares me is one of the stations used as an emergency location is a test phone that was never used as a real phone. On top of that, I've never used the emergency location field, so how that test number got populated into over 20 other stations is a complete mystery.

OK, after fixing the ones I found I ran a full station dump and found 40 more stations set with 3 more emergency extensions that made no sense.

I think this dates back to the original installation of this system which was before I started here and was originally with another phone provider as well.

I no longer consider this an issue. Thanks.
