Here is one that should be fun to solve. A small computer (one that has NO CDROM, video, mouse, or keyboard) running embedded Windows NT 4. Using MS NetMeeting you can tunnel into the box, where you find yourself with a Windows NT desktop. My problem is this, Im trying to install RAS, each time I do, the system locks up the networking dialog box and the only way to clear it is by going into Task Manager and ending rundll32.exe. I've tried to install a new copy of rundll32.exe, but with no luck. Has ANYONE ever worked with Embedded NT, any help would be highly appreciated. I will be eagerly watching this post all day, if you need any more info I will provide what I can as soon as I see any replys.

Hi, MKW;

You're right, it's an interesting one. I have a score a questions to ask, maybe one of them will push you in a right direction.
1. Once you're in the desctop, can you map network drives, i.e., can you install software on this embedded thing?
2. If the answer is "yes" could you install PCAnywhere, and make it running a host?

I had virtually no problems configuring ANY NT4 services via PCAW remotedly, on production servers.

Hope this helps...

ANSWERS

1. Yes I can map network drives. I had to do that to get a copy of the I386 folder on the machine. I haven’t tried installing software on one yet, project for tomorrow.

As far as I can tell it’s a fully featured version of NT. My main problem is that when I try to install RAS rundll32.exe locks up the network properties dialog box. I am assuming that’s the "problem file" because as soon as I kill that process the box unlocks and disappears.

Can you kill rundll32.exe prior to configuring RAS? Unless NetMeeting is using API, it should have no effect on your connectivity. And I am pretty sure I've done RAS configuration via PCAnywhere without a glitch. Or, your rundll IS corrupt.

Ok here we go. I finally got RAS installed, but no its get so much worse. RAS install worked fine after I killed the rundll32.exe a few times. (Although the dialog box needs this file, kill the process, buhbye dialog box.) Now the problem is when I rebooted the machine now blue screens then reboots over and over again. This machine has no floppy drive so I have no idea how to get this going. I tried the Last known good hardware profile but that doesn’t help.
