Hi All,

I hope someone could help me.
I keep getting "Delievery Status Notification (Delay)".
And in the email message it says..
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.
Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.

Does anyone know why I get this?

I am a newbie on Exchange server. Any sugguestions?
Thank you.

Hello,

As I understand the process:

When an email is sent it is routed to a specific DNS address based on namespace. If the Email cannot deliver immediately (server is too busy, not accepting requests, off line for maintenance, etc...), then based on the "keep alive" time for email sent from your system, you will receive a "Delayed..." notice. Exchange will attempt to resend every so many minutes until the "keep alive" time frame has passed and then will generate a NDR.

"Keep Alive" settings are on the properties of the specific virtual server, on the delivery tab (exp = First administrative group > {server} > Protocols > SMTP > default virtual server > properties > delivery).

This is why under the virtual server for a specific protocol you will have Queue's that are established to deliver messages and the information in those queue's will show number of messages waiting, size of messages, last delivery attempt, and other useful information

Hope this helps,

Wyz
