Is there a way from a pc or laptop to trace the ip address of an email address??

No, at best you can find the IP address of the email server. At worst, that is spoofed as well

If the email is internal, no. If the email is external, then yes, the hidden headers should show the complete path, with IP addresses, that the email took to reach your systems.
But like Jimbopalmer stated, IP's can be spoofed (faked).
