For probably the past two months now our compnay/domain can't send email to any address at juno.com - running the smtp diag tool I see this:

Searching for Exchange external DNS settings.
Computer name is MAIL.
VSI 1 has the following external DNS servers:
There are no external DNS servers configured.

Checking SOA for juno.com.
Checking external DNS servers.
Checking internal DNS servers.
SOA serial number match: Passed.

Checking local domain records.
Checking MX records using TCP: ourdomain.com.
Checking MX records using UDP: ourdomain.com.
Both TCP and UDP queries succeeded. Local DNS test passed.

Checking remote domain records.
Checking MX records using TCP: juno.com.
Checking MX records using UDP: juno.com.
Both TCP and UDP queries succeeded. Remote DNS test passed.

Checking MX servers listed for user@juno.com.
Connecting to mx.dca.untd.com [64.136.44.37] on port 25.
Error: Expected "220". Server is not accepting connections.
Failed to submit mail to mx.dca.untd.com.
Connecting to mx.vgs.untd.com [64.136.52.37] on port 25.
Error: Expected "220". Server is not accepting connections.
Failed to submit mail to mx.vgs.untd.com.

I've tried flushing the DNS on our internal DNS server and mail server as well as restarting the smtp service.

Anyone got any ideas what this is? This is the ONLY domain we get this error trying to send to.

Verify you have an RDNS entry for YOUR domain.

I hope you find this post helpful.

That's something I'd check with our ISP about correct?

Ok, just did a reverse DNS check on our domain online.

The public IP that all our traffic uses resolves to a name that looks to be one of our ISP's routers. device.domain.com - should this say something like mail.domain.com?

Guess I don't see why reverse dns would do it, unless juno.com is dependent on the host name from which email is coming from. In that case, would we want mail.domain.com or would we want our actual mail servers hostname in there - mailhostname.domain.com?

Many companies like AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo and I belive Juno require that the sender of an email pass an RDNS check to help eliminate SPAM.

Speak with your ISP and have them configure the RDNS for you to have the public IP resolve to your company.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
