Hi! I have a ColdFusion template that sends out a lot of e-mail using <cfmail>. There are two problems I have encountered: (1) e-mails are delayed: I run the template at 8:00 p.m., say, and the bulk of the e-mail is not delivered until several hours later, at 4:00 a.m., say. The first 10 e-mails are delivered instantaneously, though.
(During this testing phase, I am delivering all e-mail to only one recipient, but the delayed delivery problem seems to happen all the time.
(2) I am sending out only a certain number of e-mails, but many duplicates are delivered. When I change the <cfmail> tag to <cfoutput> and count the number of times encounterd, it's the correct number. Anyone else ever have this problem? I would appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks much! By the way, the version of CF is 3.1

It's very likely that the problem has to do with your mail server and not CF. I would take a regular pop mail client, set the smtp server to be the same server that CF uses and send a test message formatted the same way as your script (to,from,subject,etc..) and see what happens. If the mail server is mis-configured, you should see the same problems with this as welll. As far as the delay goes, I would watch the spool folder located in the cfusion directory and see if the mail messages are sitting there. If they are deleted shortly after being created, that means CF has either sent them to the mail server or put them in the undeliverable folder which would be a different problem.

Let me know what you find,
GJ

Hi Gunjack. Sorry to be so tardy in answering. I think it's a mail configuration problem and am looking into that. I also re-ran the test on our development site (which is CF 4.5) and it was o.k. We are going to upgrade our client site to 4.5 (from 3.1) soon...so I hope this may solve the problem. We are both running the same exchange mail server. I did look at the CF MAIL spool and saw that the messages disappeared eventually. Thank you for your kind help.
