I create a letter in Word 2002. I use the 'insert hyperlink' function to put links in the body of the text. The links seem live before the merge(if you CTRL-Click you can go to the webpage in the link.
However, when I email merge using the wizard, the resulting email's links are dead text, not live links, even though the email is formatted (Bold, fonts, colors, etc.)
The last step in the wizard requires you to elect plain text or HTML mail, and I always send HTML.
The mail merge is working beautifully, all aspects okay except links are not live when the merge sends the emails to my Outlook 2002 outbox.
