Email forwarding

Our web designer needs any email sent to xyx@ourcompany.com forwarded to and external 3rd party address(websupport@othercompany.com). I know i can do this be creating a new mailbox and then setting the deliver options to forward to an external contact. but this requires another user license for the mail box. Is there a better way to do this?

Create a contact for the external address. Then in the mailbox properties for xyz, set it to deliver to this newly created contact. Check the "foward mail and deliver to local mailbox" check box (I can't think of the exact name of the option, but it's something along those lines).

This would require me to create an additional mailbox. I Just thought their might be a better way to do this. Thanks for the reply.

The way you stated the question, I'm assuming this xyz mailbox already exists. If so, you do not need to create another mailbox.

If that is not the case, and xyz does not already exist, you could create an e-mail enabled public folder. You can configure the public folder to foward the email in the same fashion as a regular user mailbox.

The way I would to it is to add an SMTP email address for xyz@ourcompany.com on your login (goto users in the active directory, properties, E-mail addresses tab and add new SMTP address.

Make sure you have your web designer as a contact (with there external email address) in your mailbox contact folder and then add a server rule (using Outlook for example) to forward all email to xyz@ourcompany.com to the external contact.
