Hi,

I created a DTS package that runs a query to pull data from the database into an excel file. I want to edit the query but when I go to edit the package I can't find it! Where do I go to find my initial query as I don't have it saved anywhere else but in the DTS.

Many Thanks,

on sql server enterprise manager, click on data transformation services on the left panel. then on the right panel you will see your dts package. double click on the one you want to modify. then find your query to modify...

Yes I did those things ... the problem is finding my query in the ui. The interface is totally different from when I created it and I can't find my initial query in the available options. I see images of connection1 and 2 but going into properties does not display my queries neither does clicking the other options.

What step am I missing? I'm figuring that I'm just overlooking something.

I am assuming you need the output from query to be your source for transformation script? If so:

copy the code or save your query as a stored procedure.

There is an icon for "execute sql task" that looks like a yellow cylinder with red arrows in a circle in front. Drag this icon into your DTS workspace.

Double click the icon, and either put a call to your stored proc or the full text of your SQL code in the box for "SQL Statement"

Now you can establish workflow so that this is the first step of DTS, and on success it kicks off your transformation.

HTH,

Alex

PS be sure to define your connection in the "execute SQL task" so that it matches connection used in your DTS. Good luck!

hmmm well no actually I've alread created the package. Its running as desired populated the excel file from a query that I initially put in the dts when I created it.

Now I want to go back and possibly edit the sql query but I can't find it to edit it. The only place that the query was stored was in the DTS and I don't see an option anywhere to edit or even view that initial query.

Where do I go to get to this?
