Hi Folks,

Reckon I'm trying to do something simple but seems too complicated for my simple brain

I have a large AVI file and I want to simply set a start and finish mark in the video, and then save the video between the marks as a new clip - i.e. - edit.

I thought I could simply set the 'in' and 'out' marks and then use a few mouse controls to do a copy.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks.

instead of exporting the entire timeline just export your in and out marks.

Try just dragging the clip into the timeline, then double clicking on the clip in there. Should bring up the clip window where you can set the in/out points with the { and } buttons. Then there's an apply button botton center.

The yellow bar at the top of the timeline window is what actually gets rendered. You can slide the two ends around for a less exact match.

I'm pretty new to this stuff myself and have been procrastinating in starting my big personal project because I didn't know how to do just that. You gave me a reason to look it up and try. :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whoa, simultaneous posting. Hate that.

Sorry for sounding dumb, but how does one "export in and out marks" ? I'm still bumbling around with this program. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Import your file. ( File > Import )
Then, double click the file ( located in the project window ). It opens in a new window ( clip window ). Play the video in that window and set the in and OUT points. How to set the in and Out ? Locate the point where you want to start and in the lower side of that window there are some symbols used to set the In and Out ( something like "[{]" and "}" ).Example : at the 3 minutes and 15 seconds you want the In point , so locate the slider in the point where it shows that time and press the symbol { and later move the slider to the ending point and press the next symbol : }. Next , click "Apply" ant the short clip will be inserted in the timeline without the sections you do not want.
Best editing
Humberto

In/Out marks can be set in the timeline as well as the clip. Is there a way to export only the part of the timeline(multiple clips) that's between these marks? The work area bar (the yellow thing) can be changed, but can it be set to the in/out marks? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
