I'm trying to get an external VXA-1 drive to work with a recently purchased Adaptec 29160N scsi adapter but Win2k serever won't recognise/find the hardware as it does on our other servers with 36190 cards.
The tape drive is and LVD drive but this particular scsi card only has a 50 pin SCSI 3 external port -the LVD port ois internal. So, I bought a Belkin External SCSI III Adapter Cable Fast/Wide 68 - 50 Male which clearly alows me to attach the two but I cannot get win2k to recognise it.
One thing I notice is that the scsi terminator led on the VXA-1 is now red (normally green when used with the 36190) which it states as: "SE ACT NEGOTIATION".
I've been onto the people who I bought the tape drive from who in turn received this reply from Exabyte:
"The issue is most likely that both the VXA-1 and the SCSI adapter are Wide-SCSI, but you have a narrow SCSI cable segment in between. You may be able to work around this by going into the SCSI BIOS of your SCSI adapter (CTRL-A) and disable Wide Negotiation for the address where the drive is set at."
This cable is wide scsi though? I have disabled Wide negotiation but this has made no difference. I'm wondering what to do next?

The tape drive works fine on our other servers with 36190 cards.
