Collective,

I'm having a strange echoing problem occuring in a clip.

When I listen to the clip as an MP3 it is fine. When I listen to the clip in Premier via source in the monitor, it is fine. When I preview (listening through target) OR I export the file in QT the strange echoing occuring starts up.

My Project Settings are:

Video Settings
Compressor: Video
Frame Size 160x120, Frame Rate: 15.00,
Depth: Thousands, Quality: 100

Audio Settings
Rate: 22020, Format : 8 - Stereo
Compressor: Uncompressed

I have tried to just export the audio and I still get the same problem. This is the first time in creating several hundred clips on this workstation that we've had such difficulties.

The workstation is a Apple G4 733 MHz Tower running System 9.2 with 384 MB RAM.

Any insights?

Thanks,
Creech.

Hey Creech,

I had the same experience using 5.1c and an external Quicktime file. The only thing that solved it was to delete it from the timeline and delete it from the bin, close Premiere, re-open the project, reimport the clip, and place it on the timeline again.

Have you applied any effects to it at all, or does this occur right-directly-after-placing-it-on-the-timeline?

Cheers,

Edward,

Thanks for your fast response. There are no effects what so ever. In fact, I imported the audio with no video at all in a brand new project to see what would happen. Same problem. What's more, I tried importing a different piece of audio just for giggles and I'm having the same problem with a previously fine piece of audio.

This all occured on Friday when one of my staffers had a video clip "go funny" on her while preparing clips for the Web. She wasn't able to give me a really clear idea of what happened except that the whole workstation froze and she had to use apple option esc to get out. She brought the echo problem to my attention yesterday.

Best,
Creech.

I've got an earlier version of premier on my laptop at home--I think 4.2, but not 5.1.

Best,
Creech.

Unfortunately the install disks disappeared with a former employee.

Oh. Um. Er.

Okay. If you're legal and have a valid serial number, you can probably contact Adobe for either new installation disks, or a relatively inexpensive upgrade. This sorta' falls into the category of "hassle", however.

We had a former employee make off with software. We found out because we slacked off registering it, went to register it and found that the SN had already been registered! Imagine our surprise. It took a little while longer before we figured out who owned that company and then the whole sordid path became clear.

So, hope that your SN's registered.

Actually, were I you, I'd start the ball rolling now on replacement disks/updates, just as a matter of principal.

I'm afraid I'm not terribly familiar with the post ][e Apple OS, but if you're hearing that same echoing effect from any other application, I'd suspect a system setting.

Premiere has a lot of project settings, including audio -- maybe something there will help.

Sorry I couldn't help further, Creech. It really does sound like an app problem, but the whole freezing-the-computer thing is way suspicious to me.

Cheers,

I think I may just spring for an upgrade to the next version of Premiere. I've got to say that this is a pain in the rump.

The echo occurs in no other applications. It seems to be Premiere-centric.

Thanks for your input,
Creech.

One thing that's easy to try when Premiere misbehaves is a new Preferences file.

Note your custom settings, then start Premiere with CTRL+SHIFT until the splash screen appears.

When running again, put back your Preferences - eg scratch disks.
