posted this a couple of times in other less-used forums..

can anyone tell me whether or not the EC-Council Certifications are (see ec-council.org) accredited or widley known as quality certifications? i know the ethical hacker certification is becoming well known, but want to know if the network security exam 212-38 or e-business security exam 212-25 are worth pursuing.

thanks for your time.

I'm thinking these might be useful if you're going for a security position; but CISSP looks a lot better on the resume...

so you have heard of these certs or just read through and they look credible..?

thanks for your response.

Reference:
The EC-Council member body has representatives from Microsoft Corporation, IBM Global Services, Xerox, SONY, Motorola, Quantum Research, Cisco, Verizon among others. Having forged an international communications network throughout the industry, EC-Council is focused on positioning itself as the global voice of e-Business professionals.

Seems like these guys are pretty hard-core, more aimed at law-enforcement or other marginally IT job functions. I could be wrong; I don't hang out with the Security teams any more than necessary...

If you're into IT, CISSP may be a better, more well-recognized certification. But ask around. It all depends on where you want to work and why you want to get the certificate.

thanks. last week i purchased their network security certification guide. here's what i got. a bootable cd that reads Lindows on the front. a small book on firewall, proxy, VPN etc and a print out of a 190-page powerpoint presentation. no labs, no example questions, no nothing. i have called their office 4 times to talk about this. each time the receptionistreports there is no one here to take your call. i left messages with her and emailed 5 of the addresses on their site. still no reply. looked them up on the BB of NY. nothing in their database. i am concerned because New Horizons training center is going to be teaching the Ethical Hacker Certification class, yet i am starting to doubt their existence.

thanks again.

Well, I've heard of New Horizons; but haven't taken any of their classes yet... I would think (if you're registered for the class) they might be able to give you a name and direct phone number or email address...

Persistence sometimes makes up for power...

Luke 18:1-5 (The Parable of the Persistent Widow, NIV)
1Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. 3And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'
4"For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, 5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' "
