Early Review of AMD Phemon II...

I picked up a Phenom II x4 for my new linux machine, and they really are cracking chips. For the money, you'd have a hard job beating them (£140 for a quad 2.8!).

Phenom I aren't so great, but II is a massive improvement.

Yeah....if only the i7 hadn't of turned up and spoilt the party...lol
I'm a big AMD fan but have to conceed that even the New Phenom is still way behind Intels top number crunches.
HOWEVER....AMD do seem to be holding their own further down the charts purely on price/performance and I always work out my sums very carefully when putting a machine together. AMD often come out the winner when every factor is calculated....they just can't compete at the top...damm shame.
FAO: Phenom based dual cores are also well worth a look.

They sure are! Something like a X2 7750 Black Edition & 4Gb 1066 ram stuck on a motherboard using the AMD 780G chipset can't be beat for affordable (under 200 bucks) and fast.

Not too bad considering a i7 motherboard alone will set ya back $200-400.
