Hello,

Since couple of days, whatever media I use (new, blank or else) I receive an e6096 error message in Activity log and the media is shown as unreadable media. If I try to erase it to put it blank, then I have an e6001 message.

I use Brightstor Arcserve backup v9 on Windows NT4 Server sp6 with the followings:

SCSI card Adaptec 2940
New tape unit Sony SDT-9000

These have been working very well for over a month.

I also have the same problem on a machine running Windows 2000 and brightstor v9.01 with the latest patch from CA (including the device patches)

SCSI card and tape unit are identicals as those mentioned above.

Someone experiencing the same or having any ideas for resolving?

Thanks

From my experince this error related to database corruptions

to check if this relly database related problem:

1-Do you have a shortage of sapce in partition where
Arcserve installed?
2-Do you had a database corruption a while ago?

3-are there any lifes listed under Temp folder which is located under Arcserve fodler?

If the Anaswer of one of above is yes then this is database related issue then do the following:

1-locate more sapce?
2-if there are no error in activity logs & there are somes files in Temp folder check step 3 then go to Arcserve home folder and run Mergecat.exe utility to update your database and then run your backup or format a tape and then everything should be alright.

Thanks Mohamdr for replying,

1- No space problem where Arcserve is installed (over 4Gb free)
2- Haven't experienced database corruption problem
3- There are 4 files less than 1Mb in the temp folder under Arcserve folder

I ran the Mergecat.exe utility, but still unable to format a tape...

Any ideas?

Thanks

The 6000 error codes are from the Tape Engine. Looks like there is a media or drive problem. The full message would help identify what is going on, but to really find out use the Tape Engine debug log.
