I'm using AS2k SP5 on Win2k SP4 and recently we had some db corruption. I was unable to get dbfix (or any utility) to work and it wouldn't initialise the DB's either. Couldn't repair the installation from CD or SP so removed it and started again. Fresh db last night but seems to have re-corrupted still getting E4101 Unable to log into database engine (DATABASE=ARCSERVE EC=-2005)

I still can't get the utilities to work as I get unable to log in -2005 errors.

I'm using dbfix -a -L arcserve;admin;secret astpsdat

This applies to any db and when I try to initialise it is still unable to initialise and I get the please shut down other arcserve apps message even when all I have running is the Database service and server admin.

Also when I start a backup job I get a E3530 unable to login to database (-2005). The accounts I'm using are local system and the logged in domain admin account.

Does anyone have any ideas 'cos I'm stumped.

try this.

stop all the service and close the manager
delete the contents of the database directory on the current installation
Install ARCserve to another system
copy the contents of this new database directory into the old database directory.

Thanks very much for responding. Between putting in the problem and your response I tried that after reading one of your responses to another thread but no go. So I've removed and reinstalled again but this time just put SP4 on but still it comes back with 4101 and a star next to the job.

It has to be local to the machine as the domain admin account is used on many other servers with arcserve and they are still all fine but I have absolutely no idea what the problem would be.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks very much for responding. Between putting in this problem and your response I read your suggestion on another thread and tried it this morning but no go. So I removed again and re-installed but only applied SP4 but still I get 4101 and a star next to the job.

I think it has to be local to the machine because the domain admin account that I've set to use and is logged into the server is also used on plenty of other servers running arcserve and they're still all fine.

Do you have any other suggestions? This is a mail server and I need to get it backed up properly.

Check the startup of the Database Engine in the Services Manager. It should be set to logon as System Account.

Just for info. It was a problem with the file system itself. There was a problem with the mailbase that I needed a full backup for but obviously that was not an option with the file system issues. Fortunately not too many accounts on it so exported all to local pst and rebuilt last weekend FUN, FUN, FUN. Arcserve now back to its normal self!!

Thanks very much for your help and suggestions.

n Windows 2000 Right Click on the My Computer Icon and choose Properties. Then go to the Advanced Tab --> Environment Variables. Look for the RNNAME variable and make sure that it is the proper name of the server.

If the RNNAME variable is wrong, then simply deleting the variable and rebooting the server will recreate the RNNAME with the proper name of the server.
