Hey

There are big problems with Exchange on our 2003 Small Business Server. Looking at the event log, although there are lots of errors, the 1st one, which appears to be the cause, is the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: ESE
Event Category: Logging/Recovery
Event ID: 465
Date: 18/07/2006
Time: 11:30:06
User: N/A
Computer: SSSBS01
Description:
Information Store (7572) First Storage Group: Corruption was detected during soft recovery in logfile D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\E00.log. The failing checksum record is located at position END. Data not matching the log-file fill pattern first appeared in sector 9838 (0x0000266E). This logfile has been damaged and is unusable.

I have attempted to restore the E00.log file from a previous version (Friday 18 July) but then this produces a new error "Information Store (5660) First Storage Group: Error -1811 occurred while opening logfile D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\E0000173.log.". This file doesn't actually exist and I can't find it in previous versions of the mdbdata folder.

I have now restored the mdbdata folder to as it was today.

I'm not entireley sure what to do - i.e should I repair a certain database, restore one??? Our backup software (Backup Exec 10d) backs up "\\servname\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group ", but sureley restoring this will loose any e-mails recieved since the last sucsesfull backup?

Anyway.. this is ongoing and I'm looking into it more, but any help would be great!

Thanks!

OK, I've found markdmac's faq955-5581 - looking though it now.

Followed this FAQ step by step. Had to do a hard repair. Is worked. Thanks mark!

Exactly what infomoation is lost when doing a hard repair (Eseutil /p)?

Thanks
