e-mails undeliverable when to internal and external mailboxes

I'm having mails returned undeliverable, specifically when they are sent to multiple recipients that are both internal and external e-mail addresses. I've been searching around and haven't found any solutions yet. My guess is permissions somewhere, however if someone has encountered this problem before, I'd love to know how you solved it.
