If you are talking about PRI ISDN on both the Norstar and the DS1 from the service provider, then ALL signaling is done on the D CHANNEL only as messages between the switches. The B CHANNELs only carry voice or data transmissions. This may also be called Common Channel Signaling.
The other signaling formats or protocols are related to analogue or emulated analogue riding a DS1 as Channel Associated Signaling.

It definitely will be a PRI. That's what the client ordered. The choices are from the carrier's pre-inspection form (which I've never had to fill out before). As you are aware, most "low-price" carriers/resellers are idiots.
So...E&M Wink Start would be the correct choice?

There are signaling settings in the MICS that must be matched to the settings of the carrier. That's all I'm trying to figure out. The carrier needs to know from me what settings I need so that my MICS works on the day of the cut-over.

If you are getting a PRI then E&M Wink Start, Loop Start, Ground Start are not choices. As stated previously the signaling is carried out by the d-channel. You will need to match the d-channel interface with the carrier. Such as NI-2, D100, D250, ESS5, etc.

The differences have to do with features and options provided by both customer equipment and CO switch. But the above posts do apply. I believe that NI-1 and AT&T CUSTOM do not support CID-NAME, NI-2 does support CID-NAME. There may be other items also, but I don't have that information available at this time.

Yes, confused is the correct term. As I mentioned, this is a low-budget carrier and they are asking me to do the site-survey for the new T1 install (I don't believe they have a technical staff). So, they send me this long, detailed check-form that I have no clue about (WTF is "glare"?!?). I told them I'm just a booger-eatin' phone guy, not a T1 technician and that they need to hire someone to do the site survey. Thanks for your answer. I learned something new.
Yea I hear you, and about 90% of that questionnaire they send out does not affect you anyway. Just tell them you want (if not going PRI):

At least that's how I use to set them up, that way I could use them for both outbound dialing and also as a DID circuit coming in.

Sounds like you do not have the key codes to enable pri on the MICS loaded. Once this is turned on you will see the choices for b channels and d channel protocol. AT&T is moving to all NI2.Some CLEC still have some strange combinations for settings. Also you have to set internal or external csu settings. ALso hope you have a T1 test set to test with.

For testing, you can usually get by making a T-1 loopback plug, and having their NOC send test patterns. Doesn't hurt to have a T-Berd handy, though.

"Glare" is when and outbound call and inbound call collide by using the same channel in a T1 or PRI.
When configuring a PRI you can choose the B channel selection sequence of Ascending or Descending (default) to counteract "Glare". The Norstar should always be opposite of the Telco.
On a T1, we don't have a configurable choice. The Norstar will always select the highest numbered line for outgoing.
