Hi all!
If this has already been discussed please give the link to the corresponding thread.

How to implement DDNS on a Win2003/Win2000 server for different clients (W2k, WinXP, Linux) that are not members of an Active Directory Domain, but shoud be members of a DNS domain. What shoud be the settings of DNS (Win2003), DHCP(Win2003) and clients, such that DHCP or clients(Linux) would be able to update their DNS information (both A & PTR records) when renewing DHCP lease?

Thank you.

If I remember right, DHCP is not an option if not in a domain, as it has to be authorized in active directory in order to hand out valid IP addresses.I could be mistaken there though...can;t remember for sure and workin on something else so giving it much thought

basically you just need a primary zone set to allow dynamic updates (non secure)

however, your DNS will be very easy to traverse for anyone hacking your environment to find whatever they want.

as far as any clients...they just need to point to the IP of the DNS server.

you will also need a standard primary reverse lookup zone with the same settings for ptr records
